Radiant Slab Sensor

Does a radiant slab sensor have to be embedded directly into the concrete? I was planning on running a 1/2" pex line down the wall and into the slab for the sensor wiring. Was wondering if I could cap the end of the pex and put the sensor in the tubing itself. Figuring in the future if it went bad, I could pull it out and replace.
