    Interesting article.

A friend of mine is a skilled welder. She is certified for welding from 1/4 inch up to 4 inch thick stuff, including aluminum and stainless steel. She can do marine, aircraft, and high pressure steam boilers. She taught classes at a local VoTeck for several years so others could get their required training. But she is no longer a welder for several reasons. She is a woman, and there is a lot of prejudice against women in that trade. She lives near a major aircraft manufacturer, but it lays off welders all the time as they now use adhesives to put planes together instead of welding. And even teaching is down: why learn to be a welder when there are no jobs for trained welders?

Luckily for her, she has a lot of other skills, though they do not pay as well as welding used to.

    YouTube

Forgot to add the YouTube link of his speech. He is so down to earth he could easily run for office at the local level and win. Probably has no interest and who could blame him.
