Using Uponor Propex fittings on different pex ?

Can the expander fittings and adapters be used on other brands of pex ? The supply house we use doesn't stock Uponor and we have a good selection of their pex rings and adapters left over from past projects .

Mixing PEX
I would think the fittings would work on any brand as long as it was PEX "A" (Rehau, Mr. PEX, Heatlink), but I've been wrong before.8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour
Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab0 -
I wouldn't because...
IF something goes wrong, and you used someone else's PEX with another system of connection, AND you are caught doing so, you will be doing so alone, because your insurance company is most probably going say that you were not following manufacturers instructions, and doing unauthorized field modifications, hence no coverage.
You basically bite off a big chunk of liability doing so on your own. Sioux Chief has some "universal" fittings, but I would hope that they've been through the approval process of cross polinating PEX components, and that the have a substantial insurance policy in place "just in case"...
Some thing to think about.
If you have a bunch that you are trying not to toss, I'm sure if you posted what it is that you've got, people would make offers here at Wally-bay :-) Just make sure you do your dealings off in the email world, and you'' do just fine!

Thanks guys
I believe the pex we use now is type B . I was thinking the fittings might conform to a certain standard across the board for all listed pex pipe . Or maybe Uponor states that their adapters and slip rings are approved for other brands too .........
Mark , we got a few bags of the smaller sizes . The tool too . I'm sure we'll hang on to them till we find a use . We're seeing many more homes that have at least some pex . Including Uponor .0 -
Viega and vanguard
I would be wary of using an expansion fitting on a non-uponor pipe, but I'm quite comfortable using Viega press fittings on other brands of pex that use compression style fittings.
Viega kind of killed the whole pipe and fitting match argument when they bought Vanguard and said we could use the original press fittings too. What you don't want to do is use a viega press ring on just any type of fitting, the press ring uses a very shallow ridge on the fitting. Viega is now selling their fittings with the ring pre-attached and will phase out the separately sold rings to avoid this.
As far as insurance is concerned, even if you did everything by the book you would probably end up making a choice between filing a claim and loosing your insurance/skyrocketing rates, or just taking responsibility for the problem your self.0 -
No
One simple reason. The walls of the fitting are much larger. That is why we expand the tubing, The tubing itself is making the connection the ring is used as another point of protection. Unless you can expand the other pex, which you cannot, you cannot use the fittings. You also own the joint and any damage created. There was an error rendering this rich post.
