How often should oil-fired hot water heater maintenance be performed, and what should that maintenance consist of?

If someone claimed that vibrations from blasting (over 1/4-mile away) affected the function of their oil fired hot water tank, what could be affected and what would you do to evaluate?

    Annually

    We recommend annual service, as do most manufacturers. It should include a heat exchanger and combustion chamber cleaning and inspection. The flue pipe should be cleaned and inspected. The chimney should be checked. The burner should have a cleaning and inspection. Including nozzle, filter(s), and pump strainer change. The pump coupling and pressure should be checked, along with pump vacuum check. The ignitor and electrodes should be checked. Electrodes need to be set properly. The oil line should be flushed out. Along with some other minor checks. But most importantly a combustion analysis needs to be completed and proper adjustments.



    Not sure about the blasting issue, you are referring to. I don't understand.

    Hot Water Tank Failure

    Owner claims power surge caused failure of 5 yr old oil fired hot water heater (E-50 Thermoflow).   Found water flowing out of the TPR valve.

    Power Surge

    Power surge could have damaged burner or controls. Relief valve could be opening for several reasons. One being defective aquastat, which power surge could have damaged. Have they had excessively hot water at the taps? How is the water quality? Has the tank been flushed out? There could be multiple issues, need more info.
