    recirculated in a domestic hot water system or a hydronic heating system?

    Wouldn't it be simpler...

    ... to look at the pump curve?  All modern pumps come with one.  It tells you the flow rate at different conditions of flow restriction.  Think of it as a visual equation.

    For a heating system:

    GPM = Btu/(Delta T x 500)
