Can you resell or donate a used boiler?

We were just told by our new plumber that the new gas boiler that we had installed in the fall, by a different plumber, almost twice as big as it should be. The EDR is about 88,000 and we have a 175,000 BTU gas powered steam boiler. The thought of replacing it is tough but you either pay up front now for a new, more efficient boiler or you pay a high gas bill every month. My question is, can our current boiler which has only been used for 4 months not be used by or sold to someone else? And if not, why?

    boiler too big

What kind of boiler is it? Most likely it is a sectional cast iron boiler that can be downsized by removing some sections. It sounds like it is 2x too big and you might save money by removing a couple of sections and buying a new jacket.

No reason why you couldn't sell a used boiler, but there will be no warranty with it as that ends when your ownership does.

Weil McLain and Smith boilers are easy to downsize or expand as they use gaskets instead of push nipples as most boilers do. IF you have an atmospheric boiler with a rack burner, you will have to get the correct one as well. We always use a sectional cast boiler with a power burner for steam as they are easily convertible.

    Good luck.
