Very Hot Drip connections

I'm having some balance problems on my one-pipe system. I have the mains well vented with Hoffman's and Gortons. The main vents were piped right at the very end of each main - on a T with the upper side of the T supplying the main vents and the lower directly to the drip connections. Recently as I was checking the system, I noticed that the drip connections were getting hot (very hot) before the main vents could get enough heat to close. Eventually, the main vents close and everything is fine. Am I losing steam back down the drip connections before it can go up into the mains and eventually the radiators?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
