One pipe stem system

Should a one pipe system have an expansion tank? It seems like there is too much water before the next cycle begins. My sightglass is fine.

Expansion tanks are unique to water systems and in particular these days, closed water systems.
Do you have an automatic water feeder? If the returns are clogged and natural return is delayed, the feeder may be kicking in. Once the system return finds its way back, you would have an over-level condition. Just one scenario that comes to mind."If you do not know the answer, say, "I do not know the answer", and you will be correct!"
