black to copper

Is it necessary when connecting copper to black pipe (not on the steam side of course) to use use brass or  dielectric fittings? I was taught that one should but in all of the pictures of work done by experts on this site and in what I have seen in the field I don't think anyone seems to avoid direct connection between black and copper. Larger size brass isn't always easy to find and is expensive. Any expert input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

dialectric connections are probably equally hard to find, and are prone to leakage, so brass would be best as a transition between copper and iron. if the iron pipe would be easy to replace later, you could go directly from copper to iron, and let us know how long it lasts. alternatively, you could use all black iron pipe, and not worry about electrolytrolysis.--nbc

    black to copper

I am replacing return pipes below the water line. My dilemma is should I go with black with clogs up faster then copper or should I go with the copper to black connections.

    I still only use iron

    steam or return side.
Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.
