Our 1 pipe 10 yr old steam boiler quit. The repair man said it was a meltdown and the whole boiler would need to be replaced. Supposedly was caused by a lack of maintenance which we did not know it needed. The elect. controls looked melted, but not the gas valve. Can this be true that we need a whole new boiler? Why not just replace the parts as needed. thank you! Map

Boiler Dry Fired
Hi- Generally if the boiler dry fired to the point where it got hot enough to melt the controls, there is damage to other parts and being a ten year old boiler it's not economical to even considered repairing. Post some photgraphs of your boiler and we could get a better idea of what happened.
