'Noisy' Hot Water Boiler furnace

My residential hot water furnace, about 24 years old, last month started making a noise that I can best describe as sounding like a flock of geese. It starts when the burner is first ignited and lasts for approx the first 5 minutes or so before ceases (even though the burner may still be on). I had our local furnace maintenance guy come to check it out, but he couldn't find anything, said he never heard anything like it before. He cleaned the furnace, but it made no difference. Ever hear of anything like this before? Its driving my wife nuts!
