that spring has arrived in Ann Arbor.

What you describe is U.P. T-Shirt Weather.

That was a weather service report

As usual, they blew it out of proportion.  Back in Edmonton, a big storm burries your house, the snow calculation is in feet per hour.  Ann Arbor barely gets a foot per year.  Oh well, coffee pot is empty, time to put on my T-shirt and warm up the snowblower.

    Report for the Quad Cities

Snow fall has decreased markedly, but still falling a bit.  Since the storm began with yesterday, we have received 16.5" !!.  The situation was worsened by VERY strong winds.  Temperatures were about 20.  The winds have died down, but still have the ability to cause drifting.  Current temperature is 16F.  Forecasted low tonight is -12F.

I can't wait to see if the normal cycling of my boiler builds pressure!!!

    This is fun!   :)

  • At about $3 per hour of run time......

I wouldn't be so excited!  (But I do know what you mean....finding out if things really are as you expect).  My 100,00 btu/hr input boiler may be running at 55,000 tonight to heat my 3,000 sq ft monster.

    I know.....

I am so happy when my boiler runs and makes the radiators HOT!   And, then again, I am so happy when it shuts off and the gas meter stops spinning!

    what a mess

It is pouring rain south of Boston right now. i just finished shoveling the drive and walk of 3-4" of slushy snow, my neighbor was trying to use his snow blower but it just continually plugged up so he put it away and got out his shovel. It's not easy lifting up that crap to sit on 5 foot banks of snow, I guess that's my stress test for this week!

    Rain in downtown Boston too

Two hour train commute from Auburndale. Light fluffy snow last night, starting to sleet when I left.

Ice dams on four sides (American Four-Square house). We named them: Hoover, Grand Coulee, Bonneville, Glen Canyon... hope they let loose. :(

    ice dams

My NE colonial (any house that fits no other description) has some good sized ice dams front and back and the rain is just pouring off the roof right now. This old house (1918) has 1X6" roof rafters supporting the 8/12 pitched roof;  I'll just pray that most of the snow gets flushed away before the weight becomes a serious problem.

    All done, finally

It was a lot of snow for Ann Arbor.  Some of the drifts were 12" but most of it was only 6".  I think the storm missed us.  Just one breakdown.  Snapped the 2nd stage cable.  I had to hay-wire the 2nd stage pulley.  I put my boots on the boiler to dry and am going for a nice warm nap.  The boiler is cycling 17 on, and 38 off.

It's a mess in Rock Island, IL

We live on a main Street leading to a hospital a mile down the road, so our street is in great shape.  Many, perhaps the majority of residential streets are impassible.  I made it down to the bridge and over to Davenport, Iowa, to check on the Best Mansion steam boiler.  However, I could not get within a block and there were car and trucks abandoned, and I decide it was best to not try to park and walk.  I can go back later today.

Gonna go back out and go clean of the walks of an elderly woman down on the corner.  In some places we have 4' drifts!

    Cold Wave!

It was -13F when I got up this morning.  It has now fallen to -17F  Brrrrrrrr!

I gotta run over the Best Mansion (AKA The Alamo) to see what the steam system, controlled by Tekmar 279 is doing.
