    Counterflow Drip Lines

    Hi - Anything that helps keep the steam and the condensate from interfering with each other is beneficial. In the main they both get a long reasonably well. The problem comes when they go vertical. The idea of having a drip line is to divert of the condensate so it doesn't fall into the upcoming steam stream. If you have multiple mains, each producing condensate, then it is probably a pretty good idea to individually drip all of them.  The drip lines shouldn't connect together until they are below the boiler's waterline. The easiest way to handle this is with the normal Wet Return and a Hartford Loop. The counterflow system is an early type of steam system and the majority of them have a single main. As mentioned above, in that configuration they don't use a Hartford Loop.
