I was told by a freind to remove the heat trap from the HOT end of my water heater, as its an obstruction, cap off the COLD on the top of tank & return the water through the bottom drain this is for a hydronic heat project, I will be mounting a expansion tank/air seperator on the discharge & its a closed system being staple up floor panels, using a 007 Taco pump.

Lemme get this straight....
You want to use a tank style water heater to do space heating? Is it doing your DHW as well. or only dedicated space heating?
If it is dual use, is there a heat exchanger between the two functions, or contiguous water?

sorry for the confusion
this is a closed system, seperate of my house hold WH, this is a DWH for my floors only for comfort. Note: I have the same system in my 960 sq ft garage & have had no issues in the past 9 years, but that does not tell me weather on not the trap should be removed, thanx Dan0
