I was repairing leaks on a system, that is an example of wrong or what to do if you want Bang! Bang! The center line of the header is even with the boiler jacket. The Hartford loop is a close nipple from the bottom of the boiler. and the drip lines join about 20 inches above the header. After repairing the leaks the boiler started cycling on pressure. I could feel the steam come into the drip line and cross over to the other main and feel as well as hear the bang as it came in contact with the condensate. As I was looking for leaks a conversation about making internal adjustment in pressuretrols came to mind. I thought what the heck I have 2 good used ones on the truck. I knew the pressuretrol was cutting out a 3 psi from servicing the boiler in the past. On a 10 psi gauge I was able to get the boiler to cut out at slightly above 1psi and cut back in just below the 1/2 psi mark. WOW! no more banging and the water stopped squirting out of the vents. I was trying to talk the owner into repiping the near boiler piping. But I may have just adjusted myself out of some work.
SOLD ON LOW PRESSURE! I guess it's time to order some low pressure gauges.
