Would this be a good thermostat for a new Burnam 396 Steam Boiler 1 pipe? Thanks for any input!

    choice of visionpro for steam?

that's what i have with 55 rads.  i use a remote sensor in the coldest bedroom in an upstairs apartment. i wish that there were provision in this thermostat for temperature averaging, but there is not. i do not use any setback, although you can program that in.

if you do a search here for "setback" you can read everyone's opinion. obviously, a setback of more than a few days could save some money, but not for short periods of a few hours. also useful is the feature of removability for programing-just pull it off the wall base, and program it at the kitchen table!--nbc

    Vision Pro

Which Vision Pro do you have? With the C7189 remote indoor sensor you can get temperature averaging. You need 4 or 9 sensors. The instructions for the sensor show the wiring diagrams. just 2 wires back to the stat.

"The sensor can be used to provide one remote sensor or as a temperature averaging network wit multiple sensors connected. The thermostat is not part of the averaging network."

    averaging

you're right, but only in groups of 4 wired together in the special way. i am also at the end of the distance limitations for the remotes, and so have not tried it yet.--nbc

    Distance

The distance from T-stat to sensor is 200 feet. Check with Honeywell I think they told me the wire can be longer on multiples, I was looking into it for a customer to try and prevent another Christmas day. The tenant with the sensor put a portable heater in the room with the sensor. The rest of the building got down to 50 and all the tenants were complaining. I get the call go to the boiler room. Look at the T-stat set 72 room temp 72. Call the landlord, do you want to call your tenant and see if they have a heater going. I was enjoying the party!
