gorton #2's backordered @ pex

i just heard through a source close to the supply chain .. that there are no Gorton #2's anywhere in the NYC area (which includes pexsupply/gil meyerowitz, simplyplumbing/blackman, amaf,  etc.).. but they seem to be in UPS transit from Gorton to Pexsupply et. al. This information comes a bit late, as they were heavily backordered the last several weeks (I know of someone that ordered them from Pex prior to X-mas who hadn't rec'd them as of last week). I'm waiting on a large (double digit) order of #2s .. when they arrive, I will update this thread.

    It's all your fault

That's write I am blaming the lot of you on this forum. I contacted Gorton to find out what the hold up was. They said that because of this site there has been a huge surge in demand for the #2's. I. They told me they had a back log of orders they are trying to push thru but the #2's take longer to make. I suggested they should stock up in the summer. They said they had done that and had 600 ready and then poof they were gone. I ordered 6 on 12/26. Was told today I will get them in 3-5 BD.

BTW everyone needs to contact them and tell them to develop a #3. If they get enough request they might listen.

    #3 ....

would that be equal to 4 pieces of #2...nice...but a number 2.5 might be a better size equal to 2 pieces of #2...

as a side question..does anyone have any history/clue as to how gortons got their number assignments

    new products for gorton

they should certainly make a bigger vent, however shorter in stature for those low headroom locations.......and....

on this new model there should be a tell-tale showing when it has closed on steam arrival, as well as a temperature indicator showing the rising temperature. an option could also be a good low-pressure gauge to show the back-pressure during venting, so the optimum venting capacity can be more easily determined, for each dry return.

since you can never have too much venting, these will sell like hot cakes as well.--nbc

NBC I put a Gorton c on my dry return. I was wondering how venting a dry return one pipe steam effects the flow of condinsate into the boiler does the steam hold it back?

    condensate return problems?

main vents will aid the return of condensate, especially in wet-steam situations. the condensate is blown along by the escaping air. since the main vent is usually on the dry return, that's where the initial condensate will end up, ready to enter the wet return.

if there are no main vents, and just a lot of high capacity radiator vents; then where would the condensate be blown towards, if not back into the radiator?

you may be thinking of the effect of over-pressure, where the steam pressure pushes down on the boiler waterline, therefore raising the return waterline up 1.75 inches for each ounce of pressure. even at 12 ounces of pressure there is movement, and at 1.5 psi more so.--nbc

Thats what I meant. Will the steam pressure prevent the condinsate  from returning to the boiler. The vent is on the end of the dry return Where the pipe slopes into the wet return On the top just below the elbow of the downward pipe.

effect of pressure on wet return

no the pressure will not in general prevent the condensate from returning to the boiler. it is only the relative height difference between the wet return and the steaming boiler which is effected.  the steam pressure is pushing down on the boiler waterline, and therefore causing it to rise up in the return. at the end of steaming, the waterlines in both areas will fairly quickly return to equal. maybe with a gifford loop the effect would be different. i'll have to have a think about that!--nbc

That's the power of The Wall!

Makes me wonder what might have happened to Gorton if it weren't for us ;-) Some people say steam heat is dying, but how can that be true if they're seeing such increased demand?

Now all we have to do is get Sid Harvey's or R.E. Michel's to carry them................
