insulating pipes: is there an attractive solution?

currently the pipes for our one pipe system are uninsulated (abestos removed @ some point in the home's history). I could care less what it looks like in the basement, but all the risers up to the 2nd floor are visible & I don't want them looking like eye sores. I'm not sure that these pipes were ever insulated & they do give off a certain amount of heat to the rooms, so perhaps they should be left alone?

I have 1 of those risers
on the second floor going through a bedroom. The bedroom has no radiator. It is the only source of heat for that room. I didn't like the look so I painted it.
The important pipes to insulate are the ones in the basement. Leave the upstairs alone.0 -
Attractive Insulating Solution
I have 4 risers to the second floor, I insulated them with professional pipe insulation 1" wall. I then went back to company that sold me insulation and asked about a covering material. They sold me this white plastic adhesive sheets that would fit over each size of my risers. I installed them with the adhesive strip holding each one together.I also secured them to the outer insulation with strong clear packing tape. You can turn the plastic sheet so you can't see the adhesive strip joint. The clear plastic tape is also pretty invisible. You can now paint these covers, or wall paper them to your liking.Weil McLean SGO4, Riello Gas Burner
