Hammer sound of (turned off) water radiator

I live in a building which was apparently built after the war with poor construction materials. Since the beginning of winter I've been suffering with the noise in my bedroom due to the water radiator. It's a loud, repetitve though random hammer-like sound coming from the pipe. The plumber came and bled the radiator but it didn't work. I tried bleeding it myself when the noise starts but only water comes out and the noise continues. For the past 1.5 month the radiator has been off; I was hoping that by leaving it off there would be no expansion/contraction, but the same problem continues to happen. The plumber and my landlord don't know what's causing the problem and

suggested it might be expansion/contraction which cannot be solved in

my apartment only and would be far too expansive to address for the

whole building (though apparently no-one else is suffering from the

same problem). The landlord is so fed up with my complaints that he

suggested I should move out. The same problem happens with the other 3 radiators in the apartment, though they are not as loud. The noise usually wakes me up in the middle of the night and I can't get back to sleep. I'm really desperate and am really going crazy with the noise. If someone has the answer, please help!!
