How to Clean a Mouat Trap

I have a couple radiators on my 87 year-old Mouat system that do heat up more than a couple inches from the inlet valve while the valve itself is hot. One on a landing from my 2nd to third floor and another on the third floor. Other radiators on the same side of the house and both the 2nd and third floors are working well so I don't think it's a balancing issue. I'm wondering if the traps could be clogged. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Also, can you provide guidance on cleaning them? I thought I heard that they could be removed and soaked in warm water or perhaps vinegar and that they should NEVER have to be replaced. If I were to remove, any cautionary advice?
Lastly, does anyone carry used Mouat parts? I've had some traps replaced by prior owners and would love to get original equipment reinstalled.
