Thermostats
Hi Irv- There has been a lot of good discussion of thermostats recently. Look just above above these posts there is a button with the words "Search the Wall" if you want to read the discussions.
As a thermostat for steam, the Honeywell RTH 7600 seems to work well. Make sure any thermostat you get for steam has a settable "cycle " function and that you can set it to one (1) cycle per hour which is the correct setting for steam. The RTH 7600 has this function.. Here';s a link to the installation manual

Somebody mentioned that a good place to get them is from Amazon.com

thermostat
Thanks. What does one cycle/hour mean?
I currently have my thermostat set at 68, and it turns the boiler on/off
several times per hour.0 -
Used Thermostats
I'm not sure which Chronotherm you have, but I'm assuming it's not programmable
I have a Chronotherm III in my house which seems to do the trick and has all the features a new thermostat would have. You can pick them up for $10 plus shipping on eBay used.0 -
Cycles per Hour
Hi Irv- One cycle an hour means that once the thermostat has reached it's set temperature it won't turn on again for an hour. This allows the system to "coast" a while.as the cast iron radiators still give off heat even though the burner on the boiler has shut down. If you find that the one hour cycle is too long a "coast", then you can set the thermostat to 2 cycles per hour.
"Coasting" saves fuel. As Alex suggested, you might look in the manual for your present thermostat and see if it has a cycle function.

thermostat
I have a chronotherm T8085A which has the pegs I can adjust for setbacks. I am leaving the system at a constant temp at this time. I will look into another thermostat because my system cycles on/off many times per hour.
Thanks for the input fellas.0 -
Cycling
Hi Irv- Keep in mind, it won't stop cycling cause by the pressure control, just the thermostat.

thermostat
Rod,
Yes, I understand. But if it could "coast" longer in between cycles I could save some fuel. However, if the thermostat is calling for heat because the temp is below lets say a 68 degreee setting then would it go on if it was set to cycle on once per hour?0
