Ugly radiators

I'm an architect trying to replace a traditional (and old) steam radiator in a shower room.  I'd like to install something more stylish than anything I've found.  while some options appear available in hydronic systems I can't find anything in steam.  I'm looking for a more sealed smooth face because of the location.

    Existing Radiator?

    Hi,

Is existing radiator on the ceiling, wall, or setting on the floor?  There is really no such thing as a traditional radiator, because they came in so many styles, shapes, and designs.

If it is going to work on a steam system, it needs to be made out of the same materials as the rest of the radiators in the system.  That is, if the rest of the system is cast iron, and you put in a radiator with low mass, it will not function the same, the people in the shower  will be cold and VERY unhappy with their "attractive" radiator.

Do you have any pictures of the current radiator and how it is installed?  If so, please add to the post.

    Sunrad

See if you locate an old ARCO Sunrad or a new Burnham Radiant. These can be recessed into the wall. I have a Sunrad in my bathroom and it looks great. I would use cast iron rads on a steam system.

Heres some choices and a place to get them

http://www.radicalradiator.com/index/Finding+a+Radiator Note the wall hungs. Get them powder coated for a solid surface that stays nice.

  • Try....

steamradiators.com.   They have the modern "european" style radiators for steam.

There was an error rendering this rich post.

Electric Radiant Heat is the way to go in a shower room

Instant and on-demand with the advantages of steam radiation plus towel warmers. No, I don't work for the electric company :-)

I've Never Seen an Ugly Radiator....

I've been thinking about it all day, and for the life of me, I simply cannot recall ever seeing a cast iron radiator that I thought was ugly.  Of course, I have seen a few that needed to be sandblasted and repainted....   But that is just condition.  Cast Iron Radiators, in and of themselves, are objects of beauty, in my eyes.

    I wouldn't use electric

in a shower room of all places! Sooner or later something will get wet that shouldn't, and someone could get hurt.
