can anyone identify this mouat part?

I ran into an original Mouat steam system in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky, on the south shore of the Ohio River, about 250 miles from Cleveland, Mouat's home town. The vapor and damper regulator was intact and still installed on the coal boiler. Laying loose on top of the boiler was a part I'm not familiar with. I got out my reference material when I got back to the office, but couldn't come up with anything.

I'm sure that Gerry Gill or Steamhead will recognize this. How about it?

The part is in the left pic. The brass piece as seen on the top (but probably would be its side if hooked up) appears to be the bottom cock for a gauge glass.

    Mouat thingie

I've never seen one either, but is that a lever on the side of it? Like it would feed water below a certain level. Seems awfully small for such a thing, though.

    Hi Pat!

How have you been?..that was mouats gauge..it was the water reservoir that got pushed up the ounce scale that stood behind the glass..the scale read 1-10 ounces and the marks were 1.75'' apart..the most perfect gauge..we like to put them back in service since you can't get more accurate than the water column..we special order in long enough red line gauge glass from state supply  just to fix the gauges.

    brilliant.

why didn't I see that? And quite a high resolution gage at that. Kind of like the one you fashioned for your minitube steam system.

    so maybe there is

a better choice of gauge? I think I will look through the State Supply catalog and check out the fittings for making a water column gauge.

    like a broomell

    Hi Gerry,

Doing well, thamks. That makes sense that it indicates pressure like the Broomell receiver. I didn't spend much time on the job.

    not this one

    Hi Steamhead,

The house is for sale, the owners don't get along, and they just want the minimum done. Maybe the new owners will appreciate what they have.
