low water cut off

Hello everyone:)

I am adding a backup low water cut off on my steam boiler. I mistakenly bought the Mcdonnell & Miller guard dog model # RB-122E which is made for a hot water system.

Quaestion is do i have to return it or can i use it anyway?

    it won't last if used on a steam boiler.
