    has my vote

For an adjustible vent, I have found them to be very reliable.

    Hoffman 1A

Hoffman 1A can be adjusted from .026 to .225 cfm @ 2oz.  So that means it will work on a wide range of radiators.  I think I heard only one complaint from a light sleeper.  It has a clink/plink that woke him up all the time.

Vent Rite #1 vents at a similar rate.  Is quieter for a bedroom.

Pricewise: Hoffman beats Ventrite by about 15 bucks.

    I prefer vent rite

actually slightly slower on high vent but they are easy to adjust and consistent. Price in my area is opposite as Hoffman are less common here.

    best steam vent

have tried them all over the years and I now always use and recommend the Heattimer Vari-Vent.....excellent, long lasting and one of the fastest vents I've used. Find them very well priced at www.steamdepot.com

They sure are hard to find.

Maybe Charlie has a better source.

    I buy from my wholesalers

That is the price I sell them for. They do not seem to be popular in your region. It is an issue with manufacturer representatives and market share I am sure after many phone calls when I was in White Plains.

I never had to buy any

I found a few in a scrap pail when I took over this place.  They were obviously pretty old, a bit banged up, numbers wore off, threads a little bare.  I tried one in my troublemaker convector 7 EDR.  And also in my cold room, last riser on the main, on the second floor.  Ventrite tamed both of them. So I'm sold.  I did a bit more geographical digging for you here are 2 more suppliers.

The manufacturer of Vent-Rite #1 is Barnes & Jones, Newtonville, Mass.
