Valve frozen shut

I have been renovating this building for 3 years, and have had a radiator detached in this particular bathroom for about 2 years now. I want to put it back in place, but the valve will not turn. It was working at the time I turned it off. Can this be refurbished in place somehow, or do I need to replace the valve? I am assuming that replacing could put stress on the connected pipes, and I am somewhat reluctant to do that.

Sorry if this is a repeat question. I did check the archives.

if the valve stem will not turn, loosen the packing nut, above the bonnet of the valve, under the handle. it should turn [open], and then when open you can tighten the packing nut up to prevent it from leaking. use a good wrench to preserve the flats on the nut.--nbc

    Excellent!

That sounds about perfect. Thank you.

    Perfect

That worked perfectly. Thank you again. The radiator is in place and heating extremely well. The hut was packed with string that I was not quite able to jam back in there, but I was extra generous with the thread sealant and it does not seem to be spitting or leaking at the valve.

    Thank you again.
