no main vents

have a one pipe steam, no main vents ,would be hard to install mains vents. is it posible to use Gertets method of adding mains at the top of the riser , if not why?

It can be easy
or it can be hard, but it can be done. Adding on the riser is for specific cases. It would be best for most systems to put them by the ends of the mains this will keep any leaking when they go bad in the basement not on the top floor. Also they can be balanced out and timed from one floor to even out the heat.Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.
