The Icelanders have the advantage of living on top of a bunch of volcanoes - so geothermal heat is EVERYWHERE.
But there are some downsides to living on top of volcanoes!!!! Every now and then, Bad Things happen in Iceland - not least the eruption that shut down air travel all over Europe last April, due to dust in the atmosphere.
Geothermal is neverthless interesting, even if not at the extreme temperatures in Iceland and Oregon. In Munich, Southern Germany, there's a District Heating System powered by geothermal water coming out of boreholes at around 85-90 C. Hot enough to do the job and much easier to handle. Still need to drill down a long way, however.
