Nut on filter:
I used to deal with that. I got tired of it so I switched to Spin-on's. I never have to undo that nut and stick my hand inside that nasty cannister too clean out that sludge. So I can put in a new element. I just "Spin and Grin". In fact, I do it twice. I put two filters so the oil to the burner is ALWAYS clean.

over tightening it. The new red gaskets are not as good as the old black gaskets. They are thinner and prone to cracking, etc. I'd upgrade it to a small General filter personally. B-4's are the worst filter, but most common. Could also be a sand hole in the casting0
