nut on fulflo oil filter cartridge

sparkie Member Posts: 49
I recently changed the filter on my tank as i have always done, but this time i cant stop it from weeping around the nut on top. ive changed the nut gasket 3 times but it still seeps a bit.  How  tight can i make up the the nut without worrying about breaking the bolt in the filter housing? Not the small bleeder screw, but the main nut

    Nut on filter:

I used to deal with that. I got tired of it so I switched to Spin-on's. I never have to undo that nut and stick my hand inside that nasty cannister too clean out that sludge.  So I can put in a new element. I just "Spin and Grin". In fact, I do it twice. I put two filters so the oil to the burner is ALWAYS clean.

I don't know why those gaskets leak. But the did/do.

    you may be

over tightening it. The new red gaskets are not as good as the old black gaskets. They are thinner and prone to cracking, etc. I'd upgrade it to a small General filter personally. B-4's are the worst filter, but most common. Could also be a sand hole in the casting
