outdoor reset controller

I'm trying to improve the heat in a sizable building. A one pipe steam system. There is no indoor thermostat. What controls will cycle the system based on outdoor temperature. [Not merely warm weather shut down]. Thanks - MB

    Tekmar 279

Hi- You might want to take a look at the Tekmar 279

Click you way through the "Literature" section as this has the I&O manual which explains in detail how it works.

  • sizeable building controls

remember that the controller will rely on the heating system to be functioning as it did when new, and cannot make compensations for any deffered maintainance, or areas of delayed arrival of steam.

i don't know if you have problems or not; however many people think that outdoor reset will overcome other problems.

the tekmar 279 is capable of having multiple indoor sensors to give it feedback on average inside temperature. i wish the control wiring were wireless, but unfortunately that is not the case.--nbc
  • Take a look at.....

R&D electronics.  Built beefy and excellent support.  They have a variety of steam boiler controls and are continuing to expand their offerings following new ideas in steam heating.

    Tekmar

I installed a Tekmar 279 a couple of years ago with very good results.  I also installed a couple of room sensors, which prevent the calculated cycle time from gradually overheating or underheating the building.

    Also-

Outdoor reset and averaging building temp can be incorporated using a variety of manufacturers controls, but you might also consider using temp controls at each individual radiator-wherein a valve can be installed that will give the tenant more distinct control of the heat. Certainly more expensive than just changing a vent, but it gives the tenant control, and can stop them from opening the double hung valve when the system is otherwise out of control-double hung valve being the windows...End of the day-less gas burned.

    tekmar 279

After preforming a system overhaul I installed a Tamar 279 and a few thermostatic radiator valves with very good results....I was able to overcome the poor near boiler piping and years of handyman work, on a 7 unit condo building in the Boston area...I must say the Tamar people were helpful when I called for assistance since this was my first application....This was a perfect fit for this building and I highly recommend the 279....J A

    tekmar

The best price that I found for tekmar was at Pexsupply.com.

It is a good idea to go to the Tekmar web site and open up the installation and operation manual.  Read and understand it thoroughly.
