Whistling Air Vent
Zephyr
Member Posts: 1
Hi - We are slowly learning about the one-pipe steam system we have in our house we bought this past year. We have a problem with one of the radiator air vents in a main floor bedroom. Twice I have replaced it with the recommended Vari-Vent and ended up with the original problem. After setback, in the morning, about 45 minutes after the boiler kicks on, the air vents start spewing steam. So much so that our windows are fogged up and the room is literally a sauna. This steam "session" would last for about 20 minutes before it kicked off. Last week, we switched it out for an adjustable vent from Lowes, don't have the brand handy right now, and adjusted it so that it is mostly closed. Now, we don't have massive amounts of steam, but instead we get a very high pitched whistling sound for about 20 minutes, very much like a teapot. What are we doing wrong and what could be causing this problem? Thank you for any advice you can give.

whistling
i suggest you check your main vents, as the whistling you describe is that of radiator vents being asked to do the work of the mains [helped by your fuel company]. you will notice a lower bill when you increase your main venting.--nbc0 -
