    clean your return

this seems to be an ongoing theme this year .. you likely have a very slow return, either replace it or clean it thoroughly. this is evidenced by your auto-feeder kicking in .. and your water level RISING .. if the auto-feed was kicking in and the water level was staying steady, then you would be looking for a leak. in this case, the auto feeder adds water, but it eventually all comes back .. hence rises.

  • sight-glass too full?

try to get every bit of the surgemaster out by draining, and  skimming etc. when you have pure water only in the boiler, you can evaluate the problem more accurately also, turn off any auto-feeder you may have, so you can see the real waterline fluctuations.--nbc

    leaky valve?

Don't know If this correlates, but last year after we bought our house when we fired up our boiler the shut-off valve to the manual feed line was leaking, so although the autofeed wasn't supplying the water unless called for, the boiler was being filled from the manual side, and the pressures were all set wrong, our steam boiler ended up pushing water 3 stories up and filled all the rads! It took forever to drain all that out..hope you find your answer and good luck!
