Acid flushing a tank
A couple of years back, I had very good results with my then 15 year old Amtrol indirect water heater. The exterior of the coil was limed and gunk-ed up. I followed Amtrols' coil flushing instructions and gave the tank and coils a thorough flushing with Phosphoric acid. The acid is what is used in cleaning ice maker coils. When properly used, according to the manufacturers instructions, there should be no health risks. I actually lost my Amtrol instruction book so I had to download the information from the Internet.0
