expansion joint

does anyone reconnize this 2 1/2" steam expansion joint. I am trying to see if it can be repaired by just redoing the packing if it has t be replaced it would meean a lot more demo - glass tile etc...

    we always replaced these in the past but in this case it means alot of demo to somebodys bathroom. has anybody had any sucess repairing, grafite packing?

    Repair it

    I seem to remember repairing one of these years ago.  Seems the way to go.  looks like a project even doing that.  If it doesn't hold?  Well on to plan "B"
