Hi everyone!
Does anyone know where I can buy radiators from in NYC area? I prefer new because I have a cover that my wife absolutely adores, so i would need one custom made to fit inside the cover.
the old one is waaaaaaaaaaay too small to heat the room comfortably.
Thanks!
I know there was a post back then that mention somewhere in Brooklyn by Myrtle Avenue or Metropolitan Ave, but I cant locate the post on this forum anymore.

Park Slope Plumbing Supply
In Brooklyn, you can also try Park Slope Plumbing Supply (5th ave & 19th St, i think). 718-832-0400
Edit to add: The other place you were probably thinking of is Kevin & Richard Plumbing Supply, up near Myrtle/Park Ave. 718-596-0605. I found Park Slope Plumbing to have better prices on rads though.0 -

Quick question
Hi Everyone!
Does any one here on this board have experience with radiators purchased?
I picked up a 12 section, 4 tube, 19" height radiator.
There is a tapping on the opposite side of the supply valve, but it does not fit a 1/8 valve... i was told i can stick a screw driver in there to open up the hole but even so, i can seem to get my air valve in the fitting...?
I tried to plug the valve on the top of the radiator( i know this is wrong), but it does heat across the entire way. The top of the rad have 1" opening..so i bought a 1" plug with an 1/8 opening to stick in the air vent..
even though it is heating all the way across, my guess is that it can be hotter if i move the vent lower?0 -
Rads in NYC
If anyone in NYC is looking for a used radiator, I have a friend who is looking to get rid of one or two radiators. All you have to do is go pick them up in Brooklyn, in or around Fort Greene. Contact me if interested.0 -
you need...
a 21/64 drill but and an 1/8 th NPT tap for your rad vent. double check the bit size, it's sometimes marked on the side of the tap1-pipe Homeowner - Queens, NYC

No Specs
Unfortunately I have no specs and very little info. I was there for a Halloween Party and saw two radiators in the back yard. One was the short, rectangular style. The other was small. They have one-pipe steam. Sorry I don't have more info. The homeowners won't have that info. I'll see if I can get a photo or two. My wife is heading over there on Saturday. If I can get photos, I'll post them.0 -
I have seen them at "dumps" (transfer stations) in the
Boston area. Towns don't charge if you bring metal but want $15 to bring a tire or computer screen. I have seen handsome radiators and took one once. The guy in charge was happy to see it recycled rather than sent to China. They are so heavy.0 -
Photo of One of the Radiators
I have a photo of one of the radiators. The other is a short radiator, maybe a foot tall and nine sections long from front to back. I do not have a photo of that radiator unfortunately. If anyone is interested, contact me and I'll put you in contact with the owners.0 -
Thanks jpf321!
Let me understand this, so I need to drill the opening with the bit and then use the 1/8 NPT tapping?
Sorry, never used a tap and dye set.. so looking for some clarification before i completely screw this up.
Thanks!!0 -
EDR help please.
Hi all. As you can tell, im looking to replace a smaller radiator with a bigger one to heat my bedroom. I am in need of EDR per radiator calculation help if someone can provide some guidance.
The old radiator is 12 sections across, 4 columns deep and 19" high.
The new radiator is 9 sections across, 6 columnds deep and 19" high.
According to the this website: http://www.colonialsupply.com/resources/radiator3.htmhttp://www.colonialsupply.com/resources/radiator3.htm
My existing radiator's Sq ft EDR per section is 2.25 (using 26" height since the chart does not have 25" height).
I multiply this number by number of sections (2.25 x 12) which will give me 27 SQ FT EDR. Now since this is steam heat, I need to multiply this number by 240 BTU to get steam design output of 6480.
For the new radiator, the Sq ft EDR per sectcion is 3. (using 26" height since the chart does not have 25" height).
I multiply this number by number of sections (3 x 9) which will give me 27 SQ FT EDR. Now since this is steam heat, I need to multiply this number by 240 BTU to get steam design output of 6480.
Is it safe to say these two radiators will heat my room the same way and that there is no difference b/w the two?
Thanks for the help.0 -
yes ..
they look to be approx the same. you don't have to convert to BTU .. you can stop at SqFt EDR.
you say at top they are 19" .. and it looks like you read from the 20" column of chart .. but you say later that you used 26" column .. i'm sure it's just a typo ..
your rads very likely are TUBE rad not COLUMN rads .. but again, likely just a typo since it looks like you read the chart properly.1-pipe Homeowner - Queens, NYC
