steam pipe needs lift
wheel
Member Posts: 5
I was wondering if someone could tell me if it would be safe to slightly jack up a steam pipe that's got a tiny hammer at the beginning of the cycle? I was thinking I could unbolt the rad from the valve, then jack up the pipe and re-attach the rad, shimming if necessary. Don't want to damage any pipes, this line runs up to the 2nd floor. It's actually been doing this for a couple, three years now. I had a new beautiful Dunkirk steam boiler installed late last winter, the old Sears Homart gave it up after 35 years. Thanks for the reply, Mark

Radiator Hammer
Hi -Are you sure you have a pitch problem? You might want to read the post below your's "What's with the water in the bottom of my radiator as he is experiencing a similar problem.
As for the lift you usually can get a bit by just using some blocks and a short 2x4 lever and carefully raising the radiator. No need to disconnect it from the pipe. Remember to restore a bit of slope so the condensate will flow out.
