water hammer in boiler

My system is a trane vapor vacuum system. The boiler is oil fired. This summer I had my furnace cleaned by a local heating company. The serviceman noticed that the rear firebox liner had came loose and fallen partially down. He got new material and cut and fastened it in place. Since the heating season started  and the furnace initially comes on I almost always have water hammer for a minute or two . It seems to be definitely coming from inside the boiler and is loud enough for me the hear through out the house. I have had a serviceman come back out to the house twice  but other then telling me the material is in place in back of the firewall and checking to be sure the burner is clean and functioning properly they offer no solution.  My question is could the new firewall material be not fitted properly or causing this problem in some other way?

    i don't think....

i don't think it's water hammer .. but it could certainly be heating expansion noise .. did he replace the material with the same thickness and type? do they sell the firewall as a spare part for your boiler from the manufacturer?

water hammer is usually when steam and water meet in a pipe .. and steam throws water thus slamming the water into something solid like an elbow.

i don't know if i'd run the boiler too much longer if the expansion noise if that great and if it is indeed expansion noise. you may be putting too much stress on the boiler and its sections.

    reasoning

The reason I thought it might be water hammer was  from reading one of Dan Holohan's books there was an indication that boiler water hammer might have been a possibility  What causes it?. At any rate I inspected the material at the back of the firebox and it seems like an okay fit. I am not familiar with the problem being expansion noise. What does this come from? Can it be fixed? If you know please advise.
