Should I buy a used Vaporstat

I saw on eBay today that someone is selling a used L608A1053 vaporstat. Its over $100 cheaper than a new L408J1017 but I was thinking it might be worth a try.
By the way I would hope that no one goes and buys this after my post if its a good deal!

Used
I bought mine the same way and it works like a charm, just make sure he garrantees it to be operational.
BTW I believe that one has the mercury bulbs in it, they are probably more reliable than those damn micro switches. i would not buy a micro switched one used unless it was VERY cheap.
I'd do it again if I needed one.

Vaporstat with a 12oz cut-out and 4oz cut-in

Make sure
it opens on rise of pressure not drop in pressure. If it opens on drop you will need to buy a relay to make it work and there goes your savings.Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.

It has a SPDT switch
This model has mercury switches in a SPDT configuration so it can be used either way.0 -
yes and ..
there are several variations of the honeywell v-stat .. BobC already mentioned mercury (no longer sold) vs. microswitch (which we all dislike) and Charlie mentioned the other variation (break/make) on pressure rise.
there are 0-16oz/si and 0-4psi
there are ones that break R-B (this is good) on rise
in fact, there is a handy little chart in the v-stat manual .. page 2:
http://customer.honeywell.com/techlit/pdf/PackedLit/65-0287.pdf
I don't see a 1053 listed in the chart . According to the Honeywell site, the 1053 is obsolete and replaced by the 408J1017 .. http://customer.honeywell.com/honeywell/ProductInfo.aspx/L408J1017 .. it looks like it will work .. it will come with 3 screw terminals perhaps .. you need to use the ones that OPEN when you push UP on the mechanism .. BREAK R-B ON RISE. Or maybe they are labeled .. R and B.1-pipe Homeowner - Queens, NYC

however...
it is a 0-4 LBS unit .. i think most of us prefer a 0-16 OZ unit .. I would never be able to run at 6oz on a 0-4lbs.1-pipe Homeowner - Queens, NYC

if it is 4 pound unit
there is really nothing to gain over a standard pressure trol. the saving come when you have ounce control.Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.
