what's in your system?
The strainer can protect the boiler, valves and any component in the system from dirt and debris. older cast iron radiation systems are a good application.
Also consider a dirt separator. They work to a smaller particle size and do not reduce the flow like a strainer does are it catches debris in the fluid stream.
