radiator vents "spitting" and boiler water level rising and falling

i'm a homeowner and tinkerer and trying figure out why just two of the 11 radiators in my house are "spitting" - they sound like there's water in the vents. it's a one pipe steam system. they're new radiators (one is a four column radiator and the other is a small wall mounted "steamview" both replacing roughly equal sized in the wall slantfins). They're pitched. the valves are open. i have a danfoss thermostatic valve with a gorton D vent on the bigger one and a vari-valve on the smaller one. there's no knocking in the system (touch wood). it's probably on the two rads furthest from the boiler and they're probably both on the same riser. i have the piping in the basement insulated. i thought maybe i'd insulate the riser too but i'm at a loss for what else could be causing this? we didn't have this problem before and we didn't add any piping.

venting too fast???
perhaps you are venting to fast and the increased steam velocity is holding/forcing water in. a varivent is normally a pretty fast vent, and the gorton D is as large as they come. being on the far side of your mains, assuming this is a paralell flow system, this is one of the wettest parts since all other condensate, from all the other rads, flows beneath this riser .. the first thing i would try is venting them slower.
you don't mention what your pressure is set at, this may be a clue as well.
i assume you are using a Danfoss TRV "for 1-pipe" with vacuum breaker at the vent site rather than a danfoss for 2-pipe at the supply valve.
when you say they are new rads .. are the replacements for old rads but new off the shelf? or are they new additions to the system? it's also possible that they need(ed) a good cleaning perhaps if they were new off the shelf and that maybe some crud in them is causing problems.
in looking at the "steamview" rads website, it seems your only option for a vent is the far corner .. of course this will work but i don't think your rad will heat fully since the steam is going to come in, run to the top and shut your vent long before the vertical tubes fill. this is why rad vents are usually located 1/3 - 1/2 up from the bottom.1-pipe Homeowner - Queens, NYC

i have a huge vent on the main - one of those massive gortons - but i assume you mean i'm venting the radiator too fast. i'll reduce the vent on the vari and see if that works but i always thought you want to vent fast.
the cut in pressure on the system is around 0.5 psi maybe a bit above that.0 -

what is the topology of these two rads .. if the "D" is above this rad, you may still have too fast of an upward rush. but certainly trying any changes may have an effect.
also, it's actually more important to note the Cut-Out and even the differential (white disc inside) cut-out should be bottomed out, but don't overcompress the spring. the differential (if you have one) should be turned all the way to 1 (make sure you turn it the decreasing direction).
you certainly don't need to reduce the rad speeds to a trickle .. but hopefully slow them down enough to eliminate the water problem.1-pipe Homeowner - Queens, NYC
