Oversized steam boiler

Recently went to a home with an over-sized steam boiler. Noticed that the boiler kept short cycling.Homeowner said it was originally over-sized b/c they were planning on adding a second floor addition in the future.... is there anything I can do to adjust this boiler to stop the short cycling and stop wasting so much fuel? but still give out sufficient heat to heat the house. Thank you. Any input will be greatly appreciated

more short-cycling
in cases of short-cycling, always check the venting. when you are paying the gas co. to squeeeeeeze the air out of constipated little main line vents, you can have a lot of short-cycling, as the air is compressed on its tortured way out of the system.
i also agree that a hi-lo-hi burner setup can prevent the other cause of short-cycling, namely over-sizing. just check the venting first!!!--nbc0
