Can a union joint be over tightened. I use no xtra force however it is popping out the collar or is this just a defective joint. it was a 2" union. Also anyone know of a website that has a good tutorial on steam piping? I am more concerned with the piping coming right off the boiler.

It could have
been over tightened and damaged in the past. A 2" union would become damaged if tightened with a three foot pipe over the handle of a three foot wrench.
New and defective? I suppose that's possible but I have not come across one.0
