I went with the Dunkirk boiler because it had a wide range of firing rates. The EDR called for a larger boiler than was there. I installed a thermostatic valve on the return to keep the boiler operating at 140 degrees. I decided to add the secondary pump so I can circulate the warm water in the system to get the back upper floors warm after the boiler shuts down.
I think that will remedy the condensating problem and protect the boiler from shock. I don't know if mini shocks contributed to the boiler breaking while off, but preventing the cold shocks can't hurt.
