HYDROTHERM MULTI-PULSE BOILER

Member Posts: 1
I WAS RECENTLY ASKED TO LOOK AT A CUSTOMER'S BOILER THAT NEEDS REPLACING. THE BOILER IS A HYDROTHERM MULTI-PULSE . THE HOMEOWNER WANTS A HIGH EFFICENCY BOILER (90 % OR BETTER) TO REPLACE THE EXISTING ONE, HE DOES NOT WANT A HYDROTHERM MULTI-PULSE AS REPLACEMENT DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT IS VERY NOISY DURING OPERATION , IT MAKES A LOUD HUMMING SOUND WHICH I THINK IS COMMON WITH THE HYDROTHERM BOILER.
BECAUSE OF STRUCTURAL CONDITIONS I HAVE TO USE A BOILER THAT USES 2" ( YES TWO INCH) SCHEDULE 40 PVC PIPE SO THAT I MAY USE THE EXISTING INTAKE/EXHAUST PIPING FROM THE OLD UNIT. THE EXISTING HYDROTHERM BOILER IS 150,000 BTU, NATURAL GAS AND IS USED FOR FOUR BASEBOARD HEATING ZONES AND FOR HEATING DOMESTIC WATER ( HOT WATER MAKER).
AGAIN, MY QUESTION IS : IS THERE A NATURAL GAS, RESIDENTIAL HEATING BOILER THAT CAN BE VENTED WITH TWO INCH PVC PIPE ?
THANKS FOR ANY INFORMATION ............................................ JOHN

What
is the house's actual heat loss? Or, to put it another way, how do you know the Pulse isn't oversized? All Steamed Up, Inc.

2-inch vent size...
Weil-McLain's Ultra 3 boilers can use 2" intake and vent pipe, but only for their 80,000 and 105,000 BTU/hour (input) sizes, and they can be only up to 30 feet long, and 100 feet for 3".
Their 155,000 unit requires 3", and their 230,000 unit can use 3" for up to 30 feet or 4" up to 100 feet.
So if you really need 150,000 BTU/hr, the Ultra 3 will not do it for you.
They use aluminum heat exchangers and some people are afraid of that. I have an 80,000 size one, but there was no reason to use 2", so my contractor used 3" pipes for that.0 -
Munchkin Contender
The Munchkin Contender vents in 2" and goes up to 120k BTU's. Just make sure the pipe you're using for the exhaust is non foam core and you're good to go.0 -
