Good morning all,

I was wondering if anyone can help me with a computer problem I'm having.

Its some kind of virus. Won't let me open anything. Each thing I try to open, it says a file is infected. It won't let me open my antivirus program. everything that pops up asking if I want to correct, block, fix, etc, takes me to an ad for an antivirus program. Even if I want to buy this program, its blocked my internet connection. After I restarted the computer once, it reconnected to the internet, took me to a website for this antivirus, but when I attempted to purchase it, it went to a page to give payment info, which wasn't a secure page. It looks really shakey. Each time I start the computer, it acts a little different in what it wlii let me do/access.

The name of the stuff they're trying to sell me is: Antispyware Soft.

So basically, I can't run my antivirus, afraid to give financial info to purchase theirs. Any ideas how I can get around this?

This is a "rogue" program

which is designed to scare people into paying the owners. I Googled it and found several sites describing it. Here's one solution I found:

Scam

This is a really nasty attack on your computer. It happened to my daughter's laptop and was a real pain to remove. If you are comfortable editing your computer's registry and system files, you can follow online directions to remove the infection. The rogue program is particularly nasty in that it disables your anti-virus and leaves you defenseless while taking control. What ever you do, do not buy into the scam by paying ransom to the people who caused your infection.





If you are not comfortable with editing your system files yourself, there are third party  infection removal programs which you can buy online, but search Google first to see what gets good recommendations.

I got it as well even though I had Trend Micro Internet Security.



I downloaded Malware Bytes

and it removed most of the infection, but I still had problems.  Finally ended up getting a new computer.

Thanks guys.

So far, so good. I followed the link from Steamhead, downloaded their program, ran it, and it seems to have cleaned it up. All my programs are opening. The only problem I have is that it won't reconnect to my wireless internet. I'm trying, but haven't gotten that worked out yet.

I was given this site by my son   http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner which I have on my desktop and run after I'm finished using my computer every day.  It picks up everything, cleans your registry and more.  I definitely recommend it.

Virus

That is a nasty one that seems to be going around. For internet security take a look at AVAST http://www.avast.com/index While no anti-virus software is going to stop all attacks, they provide in my opinion some of the best protection paid or not. They have both a free version and a paid version. While others in my office get viruses Including the Antivirus Pro2010, my computer stays clean.



Malware bytes is another excellent program, however I prefer Avast for real time protection.



As for your wireless internet, the virus messed up your drivers for the wireless adapter. You can try restoring your system to a time previous to the incident and that may fix the problem, reinstalling your drivers may fix the problem. If these both fail there are several online forums that provide free assistance that will be able to walk you through the repair process.
