What maintenance is involved?

With a radiant heating system what kind of maintenance is involved? Yesterday I was talking to someone at a wedding and they say they have to have their system purged of air at the beginning of the season. I asked if they had an air eliminator and they said yes. Also they did use O2 barrier pex
So 2 questions. Is there maintenance? And if so what. Also why would this person have these air problems?

Properly done, with the exception of the heat source, virtually maintenance free...
Key words "properly done".
Improperly configured systems may require someone to come in and do a fall startup/purging of air, but in my 30 + years, I've never had to do it.
It all has to do with the simple premise of the expansion tanks location in relation to the circulators, and the air removal device (of your choice) in relationship to the heat source.
The DEVIL is in the details.
