Code states : If there are overhead combustible clearances within 5 feet over unit Gypsumboard or sprinkler is required unless the unit is AFUE or EF rated
So my questions is, as long as the unit has any type of AFUE rating 5/8 fire code sheet rock or sprinkler is not needed ????
Thank
Jim

That is correct. As long as it has the energy guide label, no need for fire code 60, or sprinkler if over a foot clearance-ceiling/walls/wood/combustibles/etc, need the fire code 60 sheetrock. hope this helps. Also many towns add to CMR, so do check locally as always0
