Where did Paul go?

Options
Anyone follow through on plans to retrofit a Paul system to one pipe steam? I've followed a few threads on this over the years, but they've all... dried... up.

Does Dan's new book go into this at all? (Geez, I've got to buy that already.)

    Paul system conversion

I am installing a new steam boiler and adding four rads to my existing system.  This is taking me forever, but I am very particular and it is not the only project on my "honey do" list, not to mention we have heat with a wood stove and I have had to learn each & every detail of my system.  Aside form the time, it has been fun and rewarding.

My system was originally a Trane vapor system.  I still have the Trane mercury-filled check valve-like device (as shown in TLAOSH, page 257, bottom right picture) and will use it again with the conversion.  I had intended to do the Paul conversion now, but decided with all of the upgrades and modifications, to use the system for at least one winter to get a base line of oil consumption & efficiency.  With this figure in hand, I hope to convert my system for the winter of 2011/2012 into the Paul system and then have real data to compare my savings too.  Only time will tell if I actually perform the conversion (best laid plans of mice & men, you know).  If/when I actually do it, I will most definitely post pictures, costs and a description of work performed.  I have already had many email conversations with Dan about this and am armed with all the info I need (I think).

    Thank you,

    Mike

    Cool!

I'm eager to learn more, if you don't mind forwarding any insight you gleaned from Dan et al.

    Thanks,

    Patrick

    Hey Gerry Gill-

As the venting maven around here, have you ever worked on a Paul retrofit?

    Anybody else?

    Thanks,

    Patrick
