The gas was shut off to Fresca Foods natural
foods manufacturing facility in Louisville on Wednesday afternoon after
eight employees showed signs of elevated carbon monoxide levels.
An
executive with the company described the incident as "basically a
non-event" and said most of the employees had no symptoms. A technician
was working on the gas line, and he expected service to be restored by
Thursday.
Rich Sheehan, a spokesman for Boulder Community
Hospital, said a patient came into the emergency room around 1 p.m. with
nausea and headaches and tested positive for elevated carbon monoxide
levels.
The patient told hospital workers she had gone home sick
earlier in the day from Fresca Foods, and other workers there had
similar symptoms.
Sheehan said hospital workers believed the
situation potentially represented a public health hazard and called 911,
which he described as standard practice.
Louisville Fire
Protection District Chief Tim Parker said seven employees at the
facility tested positive for elevated carbon monoxide levels, and some
of them had symptoms such as nausea and headaches, but all of them were
conscious and talking. <span style="color:#000000">
