Hi all - I'm trying to build a window seat in a spot where I currently have a radiator. I don't want to lose heat in the spot so I'd like to see if I can put some kind of a low radiator or baseboard thing in there to fit under the window seat (about 15"). I've got a one-pipe system. The room is large and has 3 other radiators in it. I was told by one supplier near me that I could use a fin tub in that area. Is that correct? What else could I use? Is this something I could change out myself or is there some more science involved?

Thanks!

You can use fintube that has schedule 40 steel pipe and fins or Cast iron baseray. The cast iron board is expensive but would fit in the height you have.

baseray specs says not to use on one-pipe steam ...

thanks for the advice. Do you think that if I'm replacing just the one radiator - a about 4' of baseboard - that I could get away with it?

    Baseboard.

Just be aware of proper pitch Using only 4 feet of baseboard, means one side will start 2" high. With 15" clearance, you shouldn't have a problem.

    FInd a low radiator

I feel in the end you will be happier. you could also look for a cast iron convector and build it in with the seat. http://www.burnham.com/pdf/radiant_lit.pdf
Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.
